Does my car insurance cover a rented moving truck?
Maybe not. The NAIC says some personal auto policies cover your liability while driving a rented truck, but many don't, and some exclude trucks above a certain size. Before you rent, call your insurer and ask whether you're covered for a truck that size, both for damage to the truck and for harm to others.
Rental counters sell two main add-ons. A Limited Damage Waiver (LDW) covers damage to the truck itself. Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) covers claims from other people if you hit something or someone. Both usually have a payout limit, so ask what it is.
Your belongings are a separate question. Homeowners and renters policies usually give only limited coverage for things in transit, and your deductible still applies. Ask your insurer before moving day.
