Can I lay a refrigerator down to move it, and how long do I wait to plug it in?
Keep it upright if you can. LG warns that moving a fridge lying down can damage the compressor or a gas line, and lets oil run where it shouldn't.
Samsung says: if it rode upright, wait at least 2 to 3 hours before plugging it in. If it rode on its side, stand it up and wait at least 4 hours. LG says 2 to 4 hours.
Makers differ, so check your model's manual, and when in doubt wait longer. Plugging in too soon is the risk; waiting costs nothing.
Because it needs that rest, the fridge can't keep food cold on moving day. Plan coolers for anything you're keeping.
